Portugal told to reduce salt content in processed foods by 70 percent

Specialists have slammed many of Portugal’s favourite sweet and savoury processed foods, such as cheese, ham, soups, cereals and yoghurts, for having too much salt and sugar.

According to two studies by specialists at the Ricardo JorgeHealth Institute’s Food and Nutrition Department, Portugal will have to implement drastic measures to achieve healthy eating goals set by the government for 2020.
Among their recommendations, are that salt content in such foods must be slashed by 70 percent.
