Every year the association chooses the 100 best wine producers in the world based on strict assessment criteria such as the number of prizes they have won over the year.
After reaching fourth place in 2014, this year Sogrape Vinhos takes first place, ahead of US company Ernest and Julio Gallo Family (2nd) and French firm Vranken Pommery Monopole Heidsieck (3rd).
“We are very satisfied and proud to receive this award that recognises how far we have come over the past years to be an Iberian benchmark in quality wines”, said the company chairman, Fernando da Cunha Guedes.
The firm has brands such as Mateus Rosé, Gazela, Sandeman and Casa Ferreirinha, but Sogrape Vinhos also produces wines in Argentina, Chile, Spain and New Zealand, and exports to over 120 markets.
