The law in question drawn up by Fernandes, sees the American state join the Paris Climate Agreement as an independent participant. The bill was approved by 146 in favour and ten against, with the Senate now set to pass the legislation at the beginning of 2018. The United States is the only country in the world to have not signed the Paris Agreement after Syria did so earlier this month.
