While the Portuguese have been found to work 400 hours more than their German counterparts every year, it is has been argued that this additional time spent at an employer’s service does not necessarily translate into greater productivity.
Portuguese workers “lack strategy”, explained Nadim Habib, director of Nova Executive Education, at a recent seminar.
Latest figures indicate that Portuguese work an average of 1,700 hours per annum, almost a quarter more than the 1,300 hours by German workers.
“They work a lot more, but unfortunately, produce very little with this work”, explained the London School of Economics graduate.
“Generally this signifies a lack of a clear strategy which helps define what we are going to do, and even more importantly, what we are not going to do”, explained Nadim Habib.

Intensity is much higher and the pressure too and I watch daily people in Portugal who think and are even convinced about to work but they don´t work......but get paid for that indeed on a very low level......To change the level of education to the better compared with central Europe will take much more time than politicians ervywhere and crazy journalists might expect.........
