Before returning to Lisbon on a commercial flight on Tuesday, with a stopover in Madrid, the president also visited visit the Frida Kahlo Museum, in the house where the painter was born, lived and died, in Coyoacán, in the southern suburbs of Mexico City.
The visit rounded off a whirlwind trip of less than 48 hours in total.
Portugal’s economy minister, Manuel Caldeira Cabral, accompanied the head of state on the trip, and also made an address at the business seminar, whose theme was ‘México and Portugal - a common voyage’.
It was organised in the hotel where the Portuguese delegation was staying, in the Polanco neighbourhood.
Attending the seminar were representatives from some 40 Portuguese companies, who were taking part in a mission organised by Portugal’s Foreign Investment and Trade Agency (AICEP) for the occasion of the president’s visit.
Among those represented were construction companies Mota-Engil and Visabeira, the pharmaceuticals company Bial, renewable energy venture EDP Renováveis and engineering company Efacec, the banks Millennium BCP and Santander Totta, ceramics and glassware manufacturer Vista Alegre, machinery company Siroco, gym manager VivaFit, technology company WeDo and construction materials supplier Revigrés.
This is the eighth country that President de Sousa has made a state visit to since he took office as president in March last year, after Mozambique, Switzerland, Cuba, Cape Verde, Senegal, Croatia and Luxembourg.
