President De Sousa had been in Luanda to attend the inauguration ceremony of Angola’s new president, João Lourenço, but on Monday he was still going to be welcomed by the out-going José Eduardo dos Santos.
The Portuguese president explained that the dip in the Atlantic brought back memories of the year when, before 2005, he lectured at the Universidade Agostinho Neto in Luanda and he would start the day early with a swim in the ocean.
During this return to Angola, he stressed the “fraternal bonds” between the two countries and the “currents” of the Portuguese and Angolans who travel in both directions, to conclude that he couldn’t miss the investiture of the new president as it was a “family party”.
“My presence is the presence of millions of Portuguese”, he said.
