World Number One Rory McIlroy moved to top spot in The Race to Dubai thanks to a closing 66 to finish fourth at 12 under par, while Englishman Justin Rose leapt to third in the season rankings after he put in a superb performance to finish joint runner-up with Phil Mickelson at 14 under par.
That was a score that would have seen him claim the Green Jacket in 12 of the last 13 Masters, but one that left the 2013 US Open Champion four strokes back from the imperious Spieth.
Asked what he needed to do in order to secure victory next time around, Rose said: “Just shoot 14 under again. Normally that gets it done. The only thing I had not done was put four good rounds together and I did that so let’s continue that trend.”
Rose’s compatriot Ian Poulter enjoyed a resurgent week in Georgia, finishing in a tie for sixth place at nine under par to move from 123rd to 17th in The Race to Dubai, which ensures he is well on his way to securing a place at The European Tour’s season-ending DP World Tour Championship, Dubai, which will take place from November 19-22 on the Earth course at Jumeirah Golf Estates.
