This is the eighth time the cliff dives take place at this location, according to a press release of the event, which said that the “distinguishing mark” of the Portuguese competition “lies in the fact that only at this stage the athletes have the opportunity to dive straight from the cliffs as the pioneers did in Hawaii almost 250 years ago.”

In 2019, the event achieved a 10-year milestone and the Azorean stage “remains firm in the calendar” and is the “oldest of the circuit.”
This year two “legends” are absent from the race: Colombia’s Orlando Duque and US Ginger Huber, however, they will have the opportunity to return since they received ‘wildcards’ status in some stages.
