The draw was held on Sunday in Dublin and determined that Ukraine, Serbia, Lithuania and Luxembourg are Portugal’s four opponents in group B in the qualification stage for the Euro. In the end, Santos said that “titles do not give anything to the teams.”

“I have great respect for all teams, but I am not afraid to face any of them. I do not live in that mood of euphoria or pessimism. I naturally assume what Portugal must do, we are candidates, we want to be in the final stage of the 2020 European Championship and we want to revalidate the title,” Santos said. “So, we can say we are the favourites but we are not.”

The first two teams of each of the 10 groups, four of which come from play-offs, qualify for the final stage of the championship to compete in 12 cities between 12 June and 12 July.

The winners of the League of Nations, including Portugal, are automatically qualified if they do not get a direct qualification. In case they succeed, the spots in the playoffs will be occupied by the order of the League of Nations’ ranking.

The qualification is to be played between 21 March and 19 November 2019 and the playoffs between 26 and 31 March 2020.
