According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere said sardine stocks had risen by 110 percent when compared with the end of 2016.
Sardine fishing is currently banned between October and April to help the stocks regenerate and the sea ministry pays the fishermen not to go out those months.
This is great news to hear. Letting the ocean recover it's stocks is a good tool of measurement for sustainable fishing practices.

I saw sardines (and undersize mackerel) on sale on the fishmonger's stall at Figueiro dos Vinhos Saturday market last week. Who should police and prosecute this vendor? Who is reponsible? GNR?
