Fire-fighters in Castro Marim, Tavira, São Brás de Alportel and Alcoutim are all on high alert. Several other councils in southern Portugal, including Loulé, Monchique, Silves and Aljezur, have been placed on the next highest level of readiness due to the persistently hot and dry conditions.
