The advisory issued by the Portuguese Met Office covers the Algarve, along with the districts of Beja, Castelo Branco, Santarém, Bragança and Vila Real.

The alert comes along with a UV rating warning for the whole of Portugal, which is today covered in red.

The Met Office has placed the whole of the mainland on level 9 out of a maximum of 11, which calls for children to avoid exposure to the sun, while people are asked to wear sunglasses, hats, shirts and sun cream when venturing outdoors.
