The petition was launched earlier this year by a woman who is currently in court, fighting to be the guardian of her mother whose wishes, she says, were not respected.
It came after a Lisbon court ruled it should be the woman’s eldest son managing her life and belongings, and not her youngest daughter, as she wanted.
In just a few days, the law change request has garnered over a thousand supporters.
With 4,000 signatures it can be debated in parliament.
