A trade union meeting held Monday afternoon saw a majority vote against strike action following leader assurances that “an understanding” had been reached with the management.

“The strike was called off because we have an interlocutor at the level of Metro employees and Lisbon transport sector users,” said Marques before adding that the two sides would meet for negotiations beginning in the middle of January.

According to Fectrans union spokesperson Anabela Carvalheira, calling off the strike “amounted to a sign that we give as regards our availability to negotiate and find the best solutions for a public company to deliver a public service of quality.”

“We have had five years of talking with the deaf. We attempt to explain what is going on with the workers and from the other side the only thing we heard was that everything is ‘okay’” said Carvalheira.

There were no other details provided as to just what details or positions had been set out in the meeting with the management that led to the cancellation of the strike.
