Christian de Oliveira is 18 and is the son of a Portuguese from Viseu.
He was born in Australia, a country he has been representing in this sport until now. He currently lives in the US where he was contacted by the Portuguese federation of winter sports (EDIP) to join the Portuguese team, which he gladly accepted, the Portuguese team coach, Nuno Marques said.
Portugal is going to be represented for the first time in this sport in the winter Olympic Games which are to take place between 9 and 25 February next year in South Korea.
Oliveira already has more than 100 points from the International Ski Federation (FIS) above the minimum required.
To qualify he needs to be in the first 30 in the World Cup where he is going to take part in the parallel giant slalom.
Portugal has 11 athletes getting ready for the 2018 winter games. In 2014 in Sochi, Russia, the country was represented by Camille Dias and Arthur Hanse, both skiers. TPN/Lusa
