The INE farming forecast, indicated there should be a general increase in autumn/winter cereal production, because of greater productivity.
Tomato production is also expected to be about 10 percent down on last year.
“The spring rains and the consequent delay in planting hurt the development of tomatoes for the industry”, the INE said, adding that “the early plantations have relatively low unit output which may be partially offset by the later plants.”
The INE also said that apple and peach orchards were affected by the adverse weather conditions and harvests are expected to be low as a result. TPN/Lusa
