After the first day of wind and rain the thirteen teams - including Oxford United, Brackley Saints (Northamptonshire) and TGA 18 Select UK - competed for the final places in the main competition and Plate Trophy.
The Blades, reflecting Sheffield’s historic past, were in sharp form and on occasions their goal tally reached double figures but in the tournament final it was a different story as they had to muster all their skills to overcome Olhão ‘A’ 2-1.
In the Plate Competition, for teams failing to make it through to the main tournament finals, it was EAWF Tavira ’A’ who ran out victors. Sporting their new strip donated by the Hairy Lemon Poolside Bar, Conceicao de Tavira and under the dynamic leadership of Andy Wilkings, the team kept a clean sheet in four games before beating Boavista Strollers (Lagos) 2-0 in the final.
Weekly sessions at Olhão (Tuesdays over 60s; Thursdays over 50s) and Tavira (Mondays over 50s) continue throughout the spring and summer.
