International Bike Meet, which took place in the central Portuguese town over last weekend.
With acts that included well-known Portuguese performers such as Xutos & Pontapés, Expensive Soul and Quim Barreiros, the Góis Bike Club also celebrated its 25th anniversary at this year’s event, which was the 23rd annual Góis Bike Meet.
Organisers said that accommodation and the local camping site were already “at their limits” before the event began, with many people, including families, having set up their tents in the days preceding the meet in order to grab the best spots.
Temperatures in the region of 30 degrees were forecast for the duration of the increasingly family-orientated event, with organisers saying it was the perfect weather for revellers to enjoy festivities by the riverside.
A total of 15,000 bikers were expected to enrol for this year’s meet, though along with visitors, the number was estimated to have swollen to 20,000, for a town which only has a population of 2,000.
Jaime Garcia, of the Góis Moto Club, which organises the event, said: “We have nicknamed the region a natural moto-tourism part because people can enjoy the inland beaches, visit the Shale Villages, and appreciate the green landscape.”
