According to national train company Comboios de Portugal, the cutback will affect commuters travelling between 10am and 5pm and again after 8 o’clock at night. The company added that part of the reason behind the reduction of around 20 percent in services is that the fleet is very old and that trains are requiring more time to be fixed and checked by maintenance services. While finances are a consideration, renewal of trains has been limited due to the low voltage supply on the stretch between Lisbon and Cascais, which is 15 times below that required by newer trains.
