Uber has more than 6,500 drivers in the country.

The company said that it is “committed to fully comply with the law so the Portuguese cities, drivers and users can continue to benefit from the potential offered by the new technologies under this new regulatory framework”.

Uber has been operating in 18 areas in and around Lisbon and Porto and in the Algarve since 2014.

A new law came into force on 1 November that governs electronic transport platforms such as Uber or Cabify, after many months of parliamentary discussions and protests by taxi drivers.
