The technology and entrepreneurship summit, which started in 2010 in Ireland and moved to Lisbon last year, kicked off on Monday in Lisbon and will be on in the Portuguese capital until Thursday at the Parque das Nações area. Over 60,000 people are attending the summit, which last year was plagued by public transport difficulties, which the Lisbon authorities pledged to resolve this year.

Between 4pm and 8pm on Wednesday, drivers for the Uber, Cabify and Chofer platforms are expected to shutdown their services in protest against the authorities, which they claim hounded them at the opening of the Web Summit on Monday, according to the president of the National Association of Partners of Alternative Transport Platforms, João Pica said.

A number of drivers from these platforms have been fined and the association estimates that the total fines amount to €1 million.

Participates are being asked to opt for other forms of transport such as the Metro, buses and trains.
