The warning specifically lists Aveiro, Beja, Bragança, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Évora, Faro, Funchal, Guarda, Leiria, Lisbon, Penhas Douradas, Porto, Portalegre, Porto Santo, Sagres, Santarém, Setúbal, Sines, Viseu and Vila Real on continental Portugal and Angra do Heroísmo, Horta and Santa Cruz das Flores in the Azores as at very high risk to UV exposure.

The IPMA also added Braga and Viana do Castelo and Ponta Delgada in the Azores as at high risk to such exposure.

Following a period of dry, sunny but blustery weath, the IPMA also reported Friday that three councils in the Santarém and Castelo Branco districts were at the maximum risk level for forest fires.

The IPMA has also placed councils at the very high risk of fire level in Faro, Santarém, Portalegre and across much of Castelo Branco and Leiria with other parts of the country now at high risk.

The risk level gets calculated according to the situation prevailing at 1pm daily as regards the air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and the incidence of any precipitation over the last 24 hours.

In turn, given the UV situation, the IPMA recommended recourse to sunglasses with a UV filter, hats, t-shirts, parasols and sun-screen whilst the young should avoid any over-exposure to the sun.
