“The occurrence of moderate and strong wind is foreseen, from the southwest/south, moving round to west, accompanied by a significant increase in sea swell, from west/northwest, with the possibility of heights of more than six metres," the harbour master for the two ports, João Cabeças, said in a statement.

Weather conditions and, in particular, those at sea, are expected to worsen from Saturday.

The harbour master recommended that sailors “secure lashings on board and step up vigilance, above all in the worst affected areas".

To the population in general, Cabeças advises them to “avoid walking close to the seashore, near the waterline, in particular on quays, rock pools and bathing areas.”
