The mayor said the publicity about the event “has mainly been aimed at the neighbouring Spanish region of Galicia, a community of millions of inhabitants so close to Monção”.
The programme includes commented tastings of Alvarinho wine, cooking demonstrations using the wine and other attractions.
Alvarinho is not only the name of the wine, it is also the name of the single variety of grape that is used to make it and the grapes “make the most for the growers”, except for port wine grapes and can cost up to €1.10 a kilo, making it “the most expensive raw material” in the country, the producers say.
