Organisers claim the event was taken down by Facebook at the request of Portuguese authorities following a notification by the platform.

More than 40,000 people have expressed their intention to participate in the event set for this Friday, while 14,000 said they would be going.

Police are meanwhile still preparing for the action and have appealed to protestors to respect the law.
