"This project was supposed to take place at Easter, but due to bad weather, it was postponed until now. This is the second edition of the event, which we hope will happen again at Easter next year", highlighted the president of the Agency for the Promotion of Downtown Coimbra, Assunção Ataíde.

The Street Music Festival - Baixa o Som'24 will take place in the Historic Center of Coimbra, until 4 July, jointly organized by the Municipality of Coimbra and the Agency for the Promotion of Baixa de Coimbra (APBC).

The II Baixa o Som Festival aims to "continue to challenge passers-by to explore the various emblematic spaces of the city of Coimbra, establishing what is known as a musical walk of discovery".

"This tour will take place to the sound of live music, performed by several national street music bands who, in an exercise of sharing with the public, will create the soundtrack of the urban route", highlighted the event organizers.

According to the Agency for the Promotion of Baixa de Coimbra, the city will once again be the stage for an urban musical edition, where music will be the guide in discovering architecture, monuments, commercial spaces, and gastronomy.

"This edition seeks to expand its scope of action, giving space to the ambassadors of street music in our country, the philharmonic bands, therefore counting on the presence of the three associations in the municipality", he said.

There will also be space for an exclusive performance in concert format, by an ensemble of young musicians from the region, who will "offer the general public the results of a workshop on practicing and perfecting this musical language, bringing a pedagogical and formative side to 'Baixa o Som', which is fundamental for the involvement of young musicians with this form of artistic expression".

This band of young musicians is made up of wind and percussion players, from various artistic schools and philharmonic bands in the Central region, aged between 10 and 20 years old.

The open rehearsal of Ensemble Baixa O Som Kids is scheduled for Monday, with a performance at Praça do Comércio.

The following day, the opening concert will take place, as well as the parade of the Band of the Ceira Recreational Musical Association and the evening concert with Ensemble Baixa O Som Kids, Folhas de Pêssego and Funk You Brass Band, at Praça 8 de Maio.

On 3 July, music will take place in several streets in the historic center of Coimbra, with a concert by Dixie Gringos - Jazz Band, Grupo Desmói Brass Band and Supertronik Bootleg, in Praça 8 de Maio.

On the last day there is music in the streets of the historic center, with a closing parade between Largo da Portagem and Praça 8 de Maio, at the end of the afternoon.
