Get your popcorn and blankets ready, open-air cinema is back in Famalicão!

Cinema Paraíso is one of the oldest open-air cinemas in the country, having been organised by Cineclube de Joane since 1999, where they have partnered with the Municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão and Casa das Artes de Vila Nova de Famalicão. The cinema sessions are running throughout July and August at Parque da Devesa at 10 pm.

Films include: “The Boy and the Heron”, “Wonka” or “The Excluded”, “Miracle in Milan” and “The Animal Kingdom” among many others.


“The choices seek to reach and engage with different audiences, with diverse proposals of popular cinema from various origins and genres, mostly current productions, but without forgetting the history of cinema”, reveals the organization. Further advising the public to bring “warm clothes, blankets, beach chairs and even popcorn”.

Cinema in the City

“Cinema in the City 2024” is the name of the open-air cinema sessions in Viseu, which runs from the 22 to the 28 July from 9:30 pm in three parts of the city: Praça D. Duarte, Museu Nacional Grão Vasco and in the field next to the main church. The programme includes seven films: “Calamity”, “We Still Have Tomorrow”, “Fallen Leaves” and “Patos!” amongst others.

Lisbon International Film Festival

In Alfama, the Lisbon International Film Festival will take place. There are more than 50 films chosen by the jury that will be screened until 27 July. The screenings are currently taking place between the Fado Museum and the Escadinhas de São Miguel. In the parish of Benfica, they will have ‘Benefica ao Luar’ which will showcase the most acclaimed films of the Oscars. Comedies, dramas and films for children will be shown in the garden of the Baldaya Palace, starting at 10 pm. Film sessions include “The Inseparables”, followed by “The Teacher’s Room” , “Oppenheimer” and “Poor Creatures”.

Cine NOS Troia

Located in the municipality of Grândola, Tróia, is one of the most popular summer destinations and now it is also celebrating warmer nights with outdoor cinema sessions running until 2 September at Jardim do Norte from 9:30 pm.

“Cine NOS brings the seventh art back to the Alentejo coast, providing viewers with unique entertainment opportunities”, highlights the organisation. The French comedy “The Revenge of Professor Poutifard” marks the beginning of the initiative, promoted by the largest cinema distributor in Portugal.

Over the next nine weeks, you will be able to watch films such as “Mission: Impossible – Reckoning – Part One”, “Wish”, “Professional Assassin”, “Cruella” and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 at Jardim do Norte.

Cineclube Santarém

In Santarém, the Cineclube brings a plethora of different genres – from documentaries and comedy to animation, alll starting at 10 pm, every Wednesday night at the courtyard of the Teatro Sá da Bandeira. Movies in The Park: Quinta do Lago

For the youngest members of the family look no further than Movies in the park on the Tee 1 – South Course, next to North & South Clubhouse in Quinta do Lago. The two chosen films are Despicable Me 4 on the 30th of July and Inside Out 2 on the 13th of August, which will start just after sunset.

This is one of the most beautiful settings to enjoy a family friendly film and just before the movie, they will have children’s entertainment, live music, and lots of fun to keep the little ones engaged.

Any great movie night comes with snacks and they have got you covered with a buggy hire for 2 people for €60 includes two boxes of popcorn and two soft drinks. Or you could upgrade and book a blanket spot up to four people for €90. Cinema ao ar livre em Tavira

On summer nights, the Cloisters of the Carmo Convent in Tavira are transformed into an open-air cinema, providing a unique cinema experience under the stars.

Organised by the Cineclube de Tavira, the event returns from 18 to 28 July and 8 to 18 August. Some of the films include “The Lost Daughter”, “Ennio”and “Godland”.

In total, 23 films will be shown, all of which have been critically acclaimed and have won awards at film festivals around the world. The screenings begin at 9:30 pm, but the public is encouraged to arrive early to enjoy themed dinners and discussions about cinema and music.


“Tickets for each session cost €5.50 for the general public and €3.50 for students and members of the Film Club. Vouchers for five sessions are available for €25.00 and for eleven sessions for €55. For students and members, vouchers cost €15 (five sessions) and €33 (eleven sessions),” the organisation informs.

Cineclube Faro

The Faro Cinema Club is running its very open Open Air Cinema Festival, which means plenty of choice between 26 July and 30 August. The screening will take place at Quintalão, located behind the Faro Municipal Museum, offering a selection of 12 live-action feature films and 12 animated short films.

“De Imperio”, “The Palace Hotel”, “Quase me Lembra”, “Os Excluídos”, “O Mal Não Está Aqui” and “Percebes”, are just some of the films to expect but there is plenty more, so please do check out their full programme below.


Cinema sessions will be free for members of the Cineclube de Faro and a cost of five euros for the rest of the public.

Cinema na Praça Continente

With 40 open air cinema sessions, ‘Cinema na Praça Continente’ is the place to be with some more moderns picks at multiple venues across the country. Some of the film options you can find are “Bob Marley”, “Indiana Jones” and “Beautiful Wedding”.


In the South, the viewings will be in Quarteira, Albufeira, Odiáxere and Faro, with all films starting at 9:30 pm but the rest of the country is pretty much covered so there is a good chance you will be able to enjoy open air cinema no matter where you are!
