In a press release, NOS said that the only cinema complex in the Parque Atlântico Shopping Centre, in the city of Ponta Delgada, is undergoing "a major remodelling" and "during the month of October, the brand's first cinema will arrive in the region", an investment that "will offer the inhabitants of the island of São Miguel an updated audiovisual experience".

The new cinema comes after NOS acquired the cinemas from Cineplace, maintaining the same number of cinemas.

The cinema complex, which will maintain its location near the shopping centre's food court, will have "rooms equipped with 2K digital projection and a Dolby 7.1 sound system", according to the company, in a press release.

New chairs are also being installed in all the rooms, explained NOS.

In addition to four points of sale at the bar, tickets and menus can be purchased through the three self-service kiosks installed in Parque Atlântico, or via the NOS Cinemas app or website.

At the new NOS cinema on the island of São Miguel, it will also be possible to reserve a special space to organise birthday parties for children.

“The entire space was designed to modernise the cinema-going experience and ensure that the best films are shown using the best audiovisual resources in the world”, highlighted Nuno Aguiar, director of NOS Cinemas, quoted in the same press release.

NOS is the largest exhibitor in the country, with 214 screens in 30 venues, according to the most recent data from the Cinema and Audiovisual Institute (ICA), followed by Cineplace with 67 screens in 13 complexes.

According to August data from the ICA, the Azores had nine screens in seven venues that this year held 2,610 sessions for more than 50,000 spectators.
