The group performed a flash mob disco routine, dressed in colourful 1970’s costumes, at last year’s SITA Carnival to great acclaim. They are delighted that Vivy B, the festival & carnival Director, has personally invited them back to perform a new number at this year’s carnival, for which they are already rehearsing.
The Jolly Dancers are a local group participating in weekly classes in Tap, Show-style Jazz and Street dance on Monday afternoons at The Jolly Bar, located near the campsite in Alvor. The group is taught by ex-professional performer, choreographer and U.K. dance lecturer, Shelley Danca, who has worked in the entertainment industry for many years. She brings a wealth of experience to both professional and community practices. Shelley is also the Dance Director and choreographs for the well-known Algarveans Theatre Group. She’s been key in several of their successful musical productions, including last year’s sell-out production of Sister Act.
The dynamic Flash Mob dance group, who love to “strut their funky stuff”, consists of various ages and nationalities, but their love of dance and having a good time brings them together. “We are a friendly group and welcome all who enjoy dancing for fun and fitness,” says Shelley.
The Jolly Bar has become a local hub for dancing, with line dancing sessions also held there on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.
