In a statement, the National Republican Guard (GNR) warned that as of Tuesday, provisional data showed 4,005 traffic accidents involving two-wheeled vehicles, resulting in 67 deaths, 333 serious injuries, and 2,898 minor injuries had occurred in the country.
Last year, the GNR recorded 7,741 traffic accidents involving two-wheeled vehicles, resulting in 118 deaths, 695 serious injuries, and 5,531 minor injuries.
In the statement, the GNR states that the objective of this year's operation is to prevent road accidents, ensure the flow of road traffic, and support road users.
The operation also aims to raise awareness of the "dangers resulting from reckless driving of motorcycles and two-wheeled mopeds, as well as the importance of using protective equipment, including helmets and appropriate clothing and footwear."
