The largest increase was in the Azores, whose airports saw growth of 25.7 percent, to 1.6 million passengers, in the year that air links to the archipelago were liberalised. Lisbon airport breached the 20-million barrier for the first time, while Oporto saw passengers rise to 8.1 million.
At Faro airport passenger figures grew to 6.4 million, while Madeira airport’s passengers were up 6.3 percent on 2014.
According to ANA, “the sustained growth in passengers in recent years results from the attractiveness of the network’s airports, from the effort to bring in new routes and airlines, and the growth in ‘low-cost’ airlines in the past year.
