The 49-year-old Spanish coach left the Belgium national team
after the 2022 World Cup, held in Qatar, where they were eliminated in the
group stage.
Martínez - the third foreigner to coach the Portuguese
national team after Otto Glória and Luiz Felipe Scolari - will be presented
today by the president of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), Fernando
Gomes, at a press conference at Cidade do Futebol, in Oeiras, from 12:00.
Fernando Santos, who led the Portuguese national team since
2014, left on December 15, 2022, after working with the team to win the first
two international trophies at senior level in Portugal, with the win in Euro2016
and the 2019 League of Nations.
