Normally I don't dare to write about politics, but as I look to the future of my country it is up to me to give myself some impetus, to show what I think should be one of the main goals and challenges of the new rulers. Because as we look to Portugal's horizon, we envision a challenging but opportunity-filled path for the future. Our country faces a critical crossroads, and it is imperative that the New Government takes the lead with a clear vision and decisive action. Based on recent analyses and studies by the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto (FEP), we have identified crucial trends, challenges and choices that will shape our collective destiny.

The FEP study offers valuable insights into the intersection between economic growth, quality of life, and population dynamics in Portugal. An ambitious target is proposed: for Portugal to reach the 13th position in standard of living in the European Union by 2033. To achieve this audacious goal, it is essential that our country adopts policies that drive sustainable economic growth.

One of the key pillars for success is a tax reform that promotes simplification and predictability, encouraging business investment. In addition, policies that facilitate entry into the labour market, stimulate innovation, promote competition in the economy and foster the internationalisation of companies are also essential.

On the other hand, we face critical challenges that require a proactive and determined approach from the future government. From promoting social inclusion to valuing the cultural dimension and encouraging collaborative participation, each challenge represents a unique opportunity to strengthen our society and economy.

Highlighting these challenges is key to understanding the areas where we most need to make progress:

THE CHALLENGE OF SOCIAL INCLUSION: A modern country must positively integrate all its citizens, promoting social cohesion and the constructive participation of all in society.

THE CHALLENGE OF THE NEW COMPETITIVENESS: It is crucial to invest in technology and innovation to ensure Portugal's global competitiveness, promoting the conception of new ideas and active participation in international networks.

THE CHALLENGE OF TERRITORIAL EXCELLENCE: Portugal must promote the development of medium-sized cities focused on quality, creativity and sustainability, reducing dependence on shopping centres and promoting the occupation of the interior of the country.

THE CHALLENGE OF THE CULTURAL DIMENSION: Portuguese culture, based on its rich historical heritage and language, must be promoted both nationally and internationally, creating value for the country.

THE CHALLENGE OF COLLABORATIVE PARTICIPATION: It is essential to promote a culture of positive collaborative participation, where everyone contributes to achieving the major national goals.

The Future Government must lead with courage and vision, mobilizing the different economic and social actors to achieve a Matrix of Participatory and Operative Modernity. This new paradigm not only requires strategic thinking, but also constant vigilance over the results of the policies implemented.

We are facing a journey that will shape the future of Portugal and the next generations. The responsibility lies not only with the Government, but with each of us as citizens. We must demand effective public policies and hold governments accountable for their implementation.

However, it is crucial to understand that building a promising future is neither an easy nor a quick task. It requires long-term commitment, cooperation between the public and private sectors, and a mindset for the common good.

It's time for action. Together, we can build a promising future for Portugal. A future where sustainable economic growth is accompanied by an improvement in the quality of life of all Portuguese. Let's move forward together, with determination and hope, towards a more prosperous and inclusive Portugal. The future starts now.
