Benicio, originally from Brazil, struck a guy outside Coláiste Mhuire Primary School on November 23 with his helmet after he had attacked a lady and three children.

The party has announced that Benicio would run as a Fianna Fáil candidate in the Dublin North Inner City Local Electoral Area.

A Fianna Fáil spokesman stated in a statement, “Caio wanted to play a greater role in his community and has decided politics is a way of doing that.”

“We are very pleased he has chosen to run for Fianna Fáil and we believe he will make a fine candidate for the North Inner City.”

Micheál Martin, the head of Tánaiste and Fianna Fáil, expressed his “delight” that Benicio will represent the group.

Martin stated in a post on X, previously Twitter, “Caio wants to play a greater role in his community, and I think he will make a very fine public representative.”

Benicio stated to reporters that he intends to run for municipal government in order to “carry on helping people.”

“My goal is to continue serving others,” Benicio said. “The greatest way to achieve that is via politics. I feel obligated to repay those who have shown me such kindness.”

Benicio will compete in the constituency with Isabel Oliveira and Anne-Marie Connolly, two other Fianna Fáil candidates.
