Announced by the Óbidos Municipality, the project aims to foster diversity, equality, and inclusion through participatory and accessible formats, with a special focus on youth, migrant communities, ethnic minorities, LGBTQI¨+ individuals, and those typically excluded from civic life.

Funded by the Citizen, Equality, Rights and Values programme (CERV), Sound of diversity will debut from 9 to 11 May during Óbidos Vila Gaming, an annual pop culture and gaming event attracting thousands of visitors. The Óbidos program includes artistic performances, interactive sessions, and discussions on identity, belonging, and human rights, encouraging public contributions that will inform future stages of the project.

Kicking off the initiative is a live concert on 9 May at Praça da Criatividade featuring Stereossauro with Ana Magalhães and Ricardo Gordo, and special guests Carlão, Capicua, xtinto, and a DJ set by the Beatbombers. On 10 May, the photo exhibition “O Amor Mata” by João Francisco Vilhena opens, followed by a discussion on domestic violence with the artist Patícia Ferreira from APAV. Workshops and panels, including “Video Games and EU Values,” will engage children and youth while exploring gaming’s potential in promoting solidarity, inclusion, and digital citizenship.

All activities form part of the European Diversity Month 2026. Sound of Diversity brings together 13 cultural partners across Europe, creating community stages that host performances, debates, and civic engagement activities. Expected outcomes include a practical guide on diversity and inclusion and improved local public policies in equality and integration.
