“A new subject ‘Visas’ was created for this new functionality, which requires the mandatory submission of scanned copies of the Passport and Visa”, says AIMA in a statement, highlighting that immigrants “may also submit up to three more documents” depending on the type of document required.
Those with work, digital nomad, student or other visas can request renewal at https://contactenos.aima.gov.pt/contact-form .
This solution corresponds to the government’s promise, announced at the end of June, to speed up the process of renewing expired documents.
The government ordered AIMA’s mission structure, responsible for regularising pending processes, to dedicate itself to this issue.
The goal is to regularise the expired documentation by October 15, announced the Minister of the Presidency, António Leitão Amaro.
The executive estimates that there are more than 370,000 immigrants with overdue documentation. These documents have been validated by administrative decisions, which extend the deadline, but many immigrants have had problems with the authorities in other countries.
It returns error for VISA extension.

Just spent 10 minutes filling out the form and uploading files for an extension of a D7 visa which expired in August 2024 and for which I was never able to obtain an AIMA appointment. And surprise, surprise, surprise!! Error in form. Have they not bothered to test this before it going live?

Does this also apply to golden visa applicants with expired residence cards ? Thank you

This website addition is useless. There no option to renew a D7 Visa. It only allows for renewal of Visas for Investment (Golden Visas)

And you cannot leave the visa number field empty if you received an automatic 90 day visa on entry...

It only allows residence renewal for ARI; hopefully that will change.

The visa extension gives error after uploading the visa and passport and then submitting. Tried multiple times.

I cannot get passed the submit page. Gives an error that you haven't completed a line, that you can't access to enter anything. At least this is just one consistent error every time, unlike the appointment page, which throws a different error every time and often just says my information does not exist. It would be incredible if they could get an actual web developer to work on this, or at least take the page down until they can test it and confirm it functions. Emailing doesn't work either because when you get a response weeks later it just sends you a link to the appointment page that doesn't work.

The tab VISA you mention in the article does not appear on the Aima website right now.
