“A new subject ‘Visas’ was created for this new functionality, which requires the mandatory submission of scanned copies of the Passport and Visa”, says AIMA in a statement, highlighting that immigrants “may also submit up to three more documents” depending on the type of document required.

Those with work, digital nomad, student or other visas can request renewal at https://contactenos.aima.gov.pt/contact-form .

This solution corresponds to the government’s promise, announced at the end of June, to speed up the process of renewing expired documents.

The government ordered AIMA’s mission structure, responsible for regularising pending processes, to dedicate itself to this issue.

The goal is to regularise the expired documentation by October 15, announced the Minister of the Presidency, António Leitão Amaro.

The executive estimates that there are more than 370,000 immigrants with overdue documentation. These documents have been validated by administrative decisions, which extend the deadline, but many immigrants have had problems with the authorities in other countries.
