"I can’t say exactly the drop in output from last year, when Alentejo produced 112 million litres of wine, as the campaign is not finished yet, but we don’t believe it will be that great", she said.


In terms of quality, Dora Simões said the “it is going to be very good”, with “well balanced” wines".
"It was a fantastic harvest this year, one of the best in recent years", she added.


Alentejo is the Portuguese market leader in volume (44.7%), and value (45.5%), the wine commission said, quoting figures from ACNielsen, in the bottled wine category with DOC (Denominação de Origem Controlada) and IG (Indicação Geográfica) classification.


Alentejo wines encompass 263 producers and 97 traders, with a total area of about 21,000 of vineyards.
