Algarve PE teacher becomes World Triathlon Champion

Last weekend, Carlos Cabrita, a PE teacher from the Algarve city of Loulé, was crowned World Triathlon Champion in the 60-64 age group after beating off stiff competition from his international rivals in the XTERRA: Global Off-road Triathlon and Trail Running Series, held in Maui, Hawaii, on Sunday.

To achieve the feat the athlete swam 1.5 kilometres in 32 minutes and 17 seconds and cycled 32 kilometres in one hour, 59 minutes and 50 seconds.
He also completed a 10.5 kilometre run in 57 minutes and 27 seconds.
Overall, he completed the three heats that make up the triathlon in three hours, 33 minutes and 46 seconds.
Overall, he ranked 231st out of 800 athletes.
