José Pedro Salema said the company was currently working on 22 contracts simultaneously “each one worth millions”, with the cheapest costing €3.5 million.
Out of the 120,000 hectares of irrigation foreseen in the overall Alqueva project in the Alentejo, 68,000 are already in operation and another 20,000 are to start working in this year’s irrigation campaign at the start of spring.
The remaining 30,000 hectares are under construction and are expected to be finished by the end of the year meaning all 120,000 should be in operation for the 2016 irrigation campaign.
