Speaking to Lusa News Agency, Social Welfare Deputy Minister, Eduardo Cabrita, said State Secretary for Citizenship and Equality, Catarina Marcelino, was recently in Greece to develop a pilot-project for unaccompanied refugee minors from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan.
“A few dozen will begin arriving at social welfare institutions at the start of 2017,” he said, adding the minors are aged eight to ten, and also teens aged 14 to 18.
Eduardo Cabrita also said international financing for the programme is currently being determined.
So far Portugal has accommodated 747 refugees under the EU relocation programme.
