The developer, MorningChapter, told Lusa News Agency the Ourika! Photovoltaic farm is the first large plant to be built in Europe to operate in a market system without any kind of subsidies passed on to consumers. The 142,000 solar panels at Ourika! will produce 80 gigawatt hours of electricity a year, enough for about 25,000 families and avoid the emission of 45,000 tons of greenhouse gases. Work on the new plant began in July and should be completed by August 2018.
