Boavista had the chance to equalise, but squandered a last minute penalty. The win will see FC Porto play Second Division Gil Vicente, who yesterday beat Nacional.

Elsewhere, Sporting de Braga beat Arouca 2-0, while Rio Ave qualified for the semi-finals of Portugal’s premier cup competition for a third year running after winning 3-0 against Estoril.

The first legs of the semi-finals take place at the beginning of February, with the return leg scheduled for a month later.
