The arrests were made following a police operation in the municipalities of Olhão and Tavira.

The operation came as part of an investigation ongoing since September, into a group suspected of being responsible for stealing about 40 vehicles including rental cars and motorhomes, as well as robbing vehicle repair shops.

22 vehicles were recovered during the investigation. It is suspected some of the vehicles were taken to Spain with false registration plates.
