According to the agenda for the next meeting between the government, employer organisations and unions, there are two points for discussion on Thursday: the presentation of the preliminary version of the Green Book on Labour Relations (2016) and the continued debate on updating the Guaranteed Minimum Monthly Remuneration (RMMG) for 2017.

The subject of the minimum salary has been much discussed in recent weeks, with Portugal's president, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, receiving employer organisations and trade unions last week to talk to them about the possibility of a medium-term agreement on economic and social issues, including the RMMG.

The Socialist government has committed itself to increasing the national minimum salary step by step so as to reach €600 a month in 2019. The salary is currently €530, and is expected to rise to €557 in 2017 and €580 in 2018.
