The Met Office warning is in force mostly for southern Portugal, including the Algarve and the Alentejo, along with Madeira.

All these regions are on either 8 or 9 on a scale from 1 to 11, with officials calling on people in these areas to take greater care when outdoors, especially with children.

The peak UV exposure period is between 12pm and 3pm and those planning to make the best of the sunny weather are advised to use sun cream, while also using sun glasses and t-shirts.
