Industry experts told the newspaper that up to ten percent of all cable channels viewed in Portugal are done so illegally.

Following the arrest of an I.T. technician earlier this year who had a customer base of almost six hundred tapped into operators such as MEO and NOS, other cases have emerged of people logging into cable channels via a pirate IPTV box in exchange for monthly fees of between 10 and 15 euros.

Illegal access to these channels are punishable with jail terms of up to five years.
