According to the report, the year-on-year decrease, of 85,800 people registered at the Institute of Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP), was the largest since 1989.

In month-on-month terms the decrease in the jobless total was 17,800.

The number of unemployed youngsters was down more than 10% on the month and almost 21% on the year to 31,500 people.

Youngsters in June accounted for 9.5% of the total jobless (against 10.6% in the same month a year earlier).

Long-term unemployment (of a year or more) meanwhile was down 5.6% on the month and 23.6% on the year, to 162,800.

According to the Ministry of Labor, since the beginning of the current parliament, in October 2015, more than 222,000 people (40%) have left the jobless rolls.
