The quake in 1755 was bigger than the 8.9 magnitude earthquake registered in Japan in 2011 and, experts have warned, could be repeated.
Portuguese earthquake specialist Cristina Oliveira has cautioned that should an earthquake of the same intensity of those recently experienced in Italy strike in Portugal, Lisbon could again be annihilated.
