The investment will be bolstered by EU funds and, according to reports, will exceed €5 million.
Newspaper Correio da Manhã reports one project, the construction of a Logistical Support Base for the Civil Protection service in Quarteira, has already been approved. The centre will directly support the “development and sustenance of rescue operations throughout the region”, and will take shape from the rebuilding of an old, derelict property near Quarteira cemetery.
A brand-new building is in the pipeline for the District Rescue Operations Command (CDOS), in Loulé, while Loulé council has also approved a public tender for the conversion of the old Quarteira fire station into a new GNR police station, at a cost of €905,000. Plans also include a GNR station in Almancil which will be built from scratch.
