The news was announced by Lisbon Mayor Fernando Medina yesterday, who said the measure will “improve the quality of life in the city.”

The new car parks are aimed mainly at residents and will offer affordable tariffs.

Low cost car parks are also to be created near Metro stations in a bid to reduce the number of vehicles entering the city.

Fifteen new car parks are expected to open before the end of this year, followed by another 22 car parks during the course of next year.
